De Tom Ansart - Steeplechase Productions
This note is to bring you up to date on recent developments in the staging of Mutiny! The script has been revised as a bilingual (French/English) play with twenty two characters, three of which speak some French. There is also now a Tahitian dance interlude between the two acts.
The projected budget for this production is about $11,500, most of which is for rehearsal and performance space rental. We have received a small sustaining grant from 4Culture to offset some of these expenses.
As in past festivals, we are partnering with the University of Washington. Sponsorship by the Department of French and Italian Studies gives students a chance to pursue internships, helps promote the festival to UW students, faculty, and staff and gives us reduced rent at the Ethnic Cultural Theatre.
This year we are collaborating with the University's Undergraduate Theatre Society (UTS) and are are hoping to find a UW student director. Applications are due to UTS by next Friday, May 4th ( see UTS Website ). If you, or a UW drama student you know, is interested in directing this show, please encourage them to submit an application.
Steeplechase Productions will be providing financial as well as artistic and production support. Theatre artists, designers, and directors interested in assisting in the production should contact me ASAP so I can forward the bios to UTS.
And please, if you are interested in volunteering during the festival, helping with marketing, or are inclined to make a financial contribution in lieu of time, this would be most welcome!
As always, we will stage the best show possible with available resources, artistic and tangible.
Thank you again for you ongoing support.
